It would be unseemly to encourage any kind of sleuthing, since the mystery surrounding its author appears salutary \u2013 but it is written from the perspective (in the voice, as it were) of the \u201cobject\u201d of an Action in New York devoted to Richard Serra\u2019s \u201cTilted Arc,\u201d and\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">its email address of origin is the provocative \u201ctiltedarcotb.\u201d Its provenance clearly lies within the circumference of the Order and its distinctive modes of collective activity, but further details would be difficult (and we suspect, impossible) to determine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Who is this \u201cOvenbird\u201d (as we know, members of the Order take on \u201cBird names\u201d), and why is \u201csolidarity\u201d such a central part of his or her nature? Could the text have been written by this \u201cOvenbird\u201d in the lingering throes of Prosphorionic metempsychosis? Or by some other Bird, a galvanized link in the Action\u2019s chain of Platonic enthusiasm? Why does the Tilted Arc seem already to know its devoted attendants so well? And why does its \u201cme\u201d give way so freely to \u201cus\u201d?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Perhaps we will never know, and perhaps we <i>should<\/i> not.
